You Will, You Are, You Have

AICA member Barry Martin has a work included in the current V&A exhibition, You Say You Want Revolution? Records and Rebels 1966-1970.

The work, You Will, You Are, You Have (1966) is an interactive installation/filmed event with 25 participants in all, including Richard Long and George Pasmore. It caused a sensation at St. Martin’s School of Art, where Martin was on the advanced course in sculpture, and the head of sculpture, Frank Martin (no relation) thought it important enough to get the principal of the school to agree to show it to the whole school – twice. Since the students on the sculpture courses there at the time were preoccupied with object-making sculpture, this work was seen as a pioneering piece.
