Former publisher (Andre Deutsch, Collins, John Murray), then after taking an MA at the Courtauld Institute, art publisher (Philip Wilson/Zwemmer, V&A Publications), now freelance writer, critic, and curator.
I have written on arts and books over the years for the Spectator, Financial Times, RA Magazine, Literary Review, TLS, Tablet. Author (with Paul Hills) of David Jones: Vision and Memory, and co-curator of exhibition of the same name at Pallant House Gallery, Chichester, 2016-17. Co-curator (with James Scott) of Julian Trevelyan: The Artist and his World, also at Pallant House Gallery, 2018-19, and exhibition catalogue. Author (with Jonathan Reekie) of The New Aldeburgh Anthology, 2009. Preparing exhibition on Dora Carrington for Pallant House, October 2021 - March 2022.
I am Deputy Chair of the trustees of Koestler Arts, and on the board of the Leche Charitable Trust and Biographers' Club, where I run two prizes for biography.
